How to become Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in India?

For becoming an AME in India has to follow the given steps:-

Step 1

After competing their 12th class with PCM as the main subjects, they pass B.E/B.Tech. in mechanical or avionics trades or

They can enroll for a 4 year AME Training programme having Two streaming i.e. Mechanical – covers jet engine and piston engine as well as light and heavy aircraft – and Avionics – cover radio navigation, electrical and instrument system.

The first year of AME training provides basic information about the aircraft rules and regulations.

In the second year, general engineering and maintenance are taught top the students that include subjects like aerodynamics or theory of flight, metallurgy, electronics, handling sophisticated equipment and practical work in machine rooms and on aircraft engine.

In the third year and fourth year, The training is focused on specific areas like light aircraft , heavy aircraft, piston engine and jet engines or helicopters.

After fourth year candidate are awarded Basic Aircraft Maintenance Training Certificate followed by an examination  Director General of Civil Aviation. The successful candidate have issued a license to service  the aircraft.

Step2

After getting DGCA-AME License the candidate are required to obtain a regulatory license or approval on a particular type of aircraft. If it is an Airbus or Boeing one has to obtaine an individual License to service that particular type of aircraft.

Aircraft MaintenanceEngineering is not a degree or nor a diploma course, but a training programme. On completion of the training, a license is issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) .

During the training, lessons are imparted for service and maintenance of aircraft so as to ensure flight safety. A three-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering license training course is being offered by several institutes approved by the DGCA.

Those who have passed the Plus Two examinations with 50% marks in aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics or a three-year diploma course in any branch of engineering or B.Sc. degree holders after Plus Two with math, physics and chemistry are eligible for admission to AME training courses.

The first year of AME training provides basic information about aircraft rules and regulations. In the second year, students learn general engineering and maintenance. In the third year , the study focuses on specific areas like light aircraftheavy aircraft, piston enginesjet engines or helicopters.

Apart from this, trainees are undergo structural aircraft type courses in mechanical or avionics stream. After successful successful completion of the training programmed, the trainees will get a basic aircraft maintenance training certificate. This is followed by an examination conducted by the DGCA.

Those who qualify the examination will be awarded a+UI license. The three-year training is sufficient for a candidate to appear for the aircraft maintenance licensing examinations. After getting the DGCA-AME license, one is required to obtain regulatory license or approval on a type of aircraft. If is an Airbus or Boeing, one has to obtain an individual license to service that particular type of aircraft. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are authorized to inspect the aircraft and Certify its fitness.

Engineering:


 MECHANICAL STREAM B1-Study related to the study and maintenance of aircraft
engines and aircraft structures are commonly referred to as mechanical stream.
Mechanical streams students who successfully pass all the basic knowledge ,module
examination conducted by the CEO(Central Examination Organist ion),DGCA(Director
General of Civil Aviation) meet all the maintenance experience required prescribed by
DGCA in civil aviation requirement-66,they receive an aircraft maintenance engineering license in category B1.1.


 AVIONICS STREAM B2-Student in this class stream related to the study and maintenance of aircraft instrument system ,aircraft radio and navigation system and aircraft electrical system are commonly referred to as avionics streams. Avionics stream students who successfully clear all the basic knowledge module exams conducted by CEO,DGCA and meet all maintenance experience requirements prescribed by DGCA in CAR-66,receive an aircraft maintenance engineer licence in CAT-B2.

Category A
Category A is the licence for the engineer who can maintain, repair and troubleshoot the simple defect of an aircraft.
A1-A1 Licence holder solves the simple defect in airplane with jet engine.
A2- A2 License holder rectifies and repairs the simple in aeroplane with piston engine
